Our Story
The problem hiding in your cup
A 2019 McGill University study, widely reported by the BBC, found that a single plastic teabag releases up to 11.6 billion microplastic particles and 3.1 billion nanoplastic particles into every cup. That is 14.7 billion invisible fragments of nylon and PET — the same plastic used in water bottles — steeping into something you drink every day.
In 2024, researchers at the Autonomous University of Barcelona proved for the first time that these particles are absorbed by human intestinal cells and can penetrate the cell nucleus. Ninety-six percent of tea sold in the UK comes in bags. Most of those bags contain plastic. The premium silken pyramid bags that look elegant are actually the worst offenders.
We started Brewstik because we refused to accept that drinking tea should mean drinking plastic.
What we built
The Brewstik Tea Infuser is a precision-engineered brewing tool made from food grade stainless steel with ultra-fine micro-mesh filtration. No plastic. No silicone seals. No microparticles. Just clean, full-flavoured tea the way it should be.
It works with every type of loose leaf tea — black, green, herbal, oolong — and it is easy to clean — just rinse under warm water. One Brewstik replaces thousands of disposable teabags over its lifetime.
Why it matters
This is not a convenience product. It is a health decision. Every cup you brew with Brewstik is a cup free from billions of plastic particles. It is better for your body and better for the planet.
We believe something as simple as a cup of tea should not come with a hidden cost.
